A New Year’s Resolution for Your HVAC System: Maintenance!
We hope you and your family have had a good 2015… and that you’ll have an even better 2016. As the last days of the year fly past us, it’s time to start making our plans—or “resolutions” as they’re usually called during the season— for the year to come.
We have a resolution we’d like you to make. Don’t worry, it isn’t a hard one to keep. It’s much easier than promising yourself that you’re going to run a marathon or learn Ancient Greek. We want you to resolve to sign an HVAC maintenance agreement for professional inspections and tune-ups for your heating and air conditioning system, done twice a year.
Here are the benefits of this resolution
First, you are making an investment in the long-term service of your HVAC equipment. Maintenance from professionals reduces the wear and tear on heaters and ACs and prevents age from getting a hold on them too early. Keeping up with regular maintenance is the best way to see that the equipment lives up to its manufacturer’s lifetime estimate.
Second, you’ll help save money on your utility bills. Each year that an air conditioner or heater goes without professional maintenance, it will decline around 5% in energy efficiency. In only a few years, you could be paying 25% more on your heating and cooling bills than you should—but maintenance will keep this decline in check.
Third, maintenance provides the best “insurance policy” against getting stuck with a malfunctioning heater or AC during a time when you need it the most. You don’t want to scramble for repairs for a broken furnace on the coldest day of the year, or for an air conditioner during the hottest. Maintenance will catch problems before they become large enough to threaten the whole HVAC system.
