Problems You May Encounter with Your Tankless Water Heater

Posted on: November 21, 2016

One of the big advantages (among many) of using a tankless water heater to provide hot water to your home is that it needs fewer repairs than standard storage tank water heaters. The reason for this is that a tankless system undergoes less much stress because it doesn’t have to use energy continually to maintain water temperature. Not only does this mean fewer repairs, it also means the water heater will have a lengthy service life.

But malfunctions are always possible, and you can trust to our team of professionals to be there with water heater repairs when you need them. Below are some issues you may notice with your tankless water heater.

No hot water at all

Obviously, when you turn on a hot water tap and find that there’s no hot water coming from it, there’s something wrong. Before calling for repairs, check to see that a circuit breaker hasn’t tripped. Yes, even a gas-powered water heater needs to have electric power for some of its components. If a tripped breaker isn’t the source of the trouble, it may be failed burners. You’ll need professionals to tackle this problem.

The hot water just isn’t hot enough

A performance issue that tankless water heaters can encounter is losing their hot water temperature when too many taps are working at once. All these taps or appliances (shower, dishwasher, sink, etc.) requesting hot water at once puts strain on the heat exchanger. If this becomes a regular occurrence, we recommend installing a second water heater.

The trouble could involve sediment blocking the heat exchanger. In this case, professional repairs are necessary.

Low water pressure

There are various sources for this problem, so don’t immediately assume that the tankless water heater is the cause. It might be a municipal issue, or it could be plumbing leaks. If the problem persists after an hour, call our plumbers. We’ll find out if you need water heater service or other types of plumbing repairs.
