Have you ever noticed water coming up from under the first floor of your house? What about a wet spot on the carpet that never seems to go away? If so, you may have a slab leak. Slab leaks are among the most serious issues that can affect a home’s plumbing system. They can cause quite a bit of damage in a very short amount of time if they are not addressed quickly.

That’s why we offer comprehensive slab leak services throughout Chapel Hill, NC. If you need a slab leak detected or repaired, call us right away and schedule an appointment.

WHAT IS A SLAB LEAK?

Your home sits on a concrete foundation, called a “slab,” which helps to stabilize it and protect against erosion and other issues. Underneath this slab run several pipes, including your water and sewer lines. A slab leak is when one of these lines springs a leak, and it filters up through the slab into your home. One of the first signs of a slab leak is water coming up into a home from under the floor. Slab leaks have the same causes as any other type of leak: corrosion, external damage, and the like. What makes them so much worse than normal leaks is their location.

WHY SLAB LEAKS ARE A BIG PROBLEM

Slab leaks are especially dangerous to your home for a couple of reasons. First, they are problematic because they take a while to notice. Because the leak is located under the house, most people don’t notice it until water is gushing up from under their floors. That’s obviously not ideal, because by that point water damage has already been done.

You can identify a slab leak indicator by watching your water meter while all your water appliances are turned off, but most people won’t do that until they notice other symptoms, by which point it’s probably too late. The other issue is that most slab leaks are challenging to locate. It takes special listening equipment to pinpoint the location of the leak, at which point it can be repaired.
